Dar es Salaam, Tanzania | Xinhua | Tanzanian weather authorities on Tuesday issued an alert over disruption of marine activities caused by strong winds and large waves in three lakes, the authorities said in a statement.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority said in its five-day forecast that strong winds reaching 40 km per hour and large waves reaching two meters high are expected in the three Great Lakes of Victoria, Tanganyika, and Nyasa.
“The strong winds and large waves are expected to cause disruption of some marine activities, including transport and fishing,” said the statement.
According to the statement, regions to be affected along the Lake Victoria basin are Kagera, Mwanza, Mara, Shinyanga, Geita, and Simiyu; regions to be affected along Lake Tanganyika are Kigoma, Rukwa, and Katavi; regions to be affected along Lake Nyasa are Ruvuma, Mbeya, and Njombe. ■
