Tayebwa eulogises late Dr. Aliker

Thomas Tayebwa talks to Mrs. Camille Moore, Dr. Aliker’s widow at All Saints Church on Friday

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa, has described the late Dr. Martin Aliker as a mentor and friend who not only inspired him but also guided his work.

Tayebwa, who was speaking during Dr Aliker’s funeral service, praised the late for his honesty and commitment to public service.

“He celebrated all my achievements and even took time to drive all the way to my village because as he used to say, I was his young friend,” Tayebwa said at the service held at All Saints Cathedral Kampala, on Friday 19 April 2024.

Tayebwa called on Ugandans to value the importance of friendship since it is an integral part of conducting our day today lives.

He said that in 2006, they had zeroed in on Dr Aliker to be appointed Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, a position he turned down as he held a similar position at Gulu University.

Leading the service, Rev. Dr Hannington Mutebi, eulogised Aliker, saying that he was an incorruptible man.

“Martin was a few of those men who chaired many boards and yet on his name, there is no corruption,” he said.

He urged leaders and public servants to serve God’s purpose by resisting corruption and leading a meaningful life.

Mrs. Camille Moore, the widow, reiterated the call for a corrupt free life, stressing the need for mourners to always look to God to solve their challenges.

She reminisced her life with Dr Aliker, a man she described as a complex but simple romantic.

Dr Aliker was a dental surgeon, businessman, community leader and was also a Minister in government. He was 95.
