Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s Peace Amooti Kabasweka was 7 shots off her day one score, but still held onto the  Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open golf lead going into Saturday’s finale.

A 3 over par score of  75 on day two Friday means Kabasweka remains favourite to win her first Uganda Open title despite the challenge from Tanzania’s Iddi Madina Hussein.

Rainy conditions had favoured her putting on day one, where she built a 5 stroke lead. She will wish for similar conditions to stave off the challenge of Madina Hussein.

The best score of the day was a 73 from three time winner Martha Babirye, but she is well off the pace with 154 gross. The tournament has attracted lady golfers from Kenya,Tanzania,Uganda Rwanda, Burundi,Malawi, Sweden and China.

Meron Kyomugisha and Kenya’s Ashley Awour are tied for third with 150 gross. Eva Magala is fifth with 152 while Kenya’s Mercy Nyanchama is sixth with 153.

The tournament is sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited under their brand Johnnie Walker. Other sponsors are Absa Bank Uganda, Case Medical Services, HK Properties, Medisell, Pinnacle Security Limited, NBS Sports, Royal and Ancient Crown Beverages Limited.
