THIS WEEK: Britam unveils Windows Glass insurance
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Britam Insurance Company (Uganda) Limited has unveiled a new product dubbed “Windows Glass Cover” (WGC) which is an extension of its already existing motor third party insurance cover.
Speaking during the unveiling of the cover on Oct.22, Edward Nambaffu, General Manager, said the company’s product development team reviewed its Motor Third Party Liability (MTPL) policy, one of the only two statutory compulsory insurance covers, with a view to improve it and make it more responsive to the needs of motorists in Uganda.
Nambaffu stated that under Ugandan laws, MTPL provides for a maximum liability limit of Shs1 million per person per accident and/or a maximum of Shs10million shillings per accident.
He added sometimes it does not provide adequate compensation in cases of accidents where the different glasses are broken or damaged. “It is also a fact that many motorists are not in position to regularly afford comprehensive motor insurance,” he explained.
The Windscreen and Door Glass Cover Policy bridges the gap between Motor Third Party and comprehensive cover.
