Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Members of parliament sitting on the parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) expressed displeasure when they were informed the former executive director in charge of supervision at Bank of Uganda (BoU), Justine Bagyenda had flown out of the country at a time when she was needed to answer questions relating to the closure and sale of seven commercial banks.

Bagyenda who had appeared before the committee a day before, Central Bank staff informed the committee on Nov.23 that she had written to the governor notifying him that she would be away  to attend some engagements which she  had confirmed before receipt of his  letter Ref Gov.902 dated 19/11/2018 regarding Cosase meetings. But, Governor Emmanuel Mutebile said he had only received her letter early that day.

This angered chairman of the committee and Bugweri county MP Abdu Katuntu who adjourned the meetings and warned that if she doesn’t appear a warrant of arrest would be issued against her.

Bagyenda was forced out of her BOU position early this year but has since been quoted by the media claiming that some businessmen are paying the press to malign her.
