THIS WEEK: Museveni makes promotions in the army

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | President Yoweri Museveni, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces has promoted over 1380 officers and militants to various ranks.

The promotions that were approved by the president upon recommendation of the Commissions Board on Mar.03 saw popular Brigadier Kasirye Gwanga being promoted to the rank of Major General.

Others promoted include the Army’s Director for Human Rights Col Charles Wacha who is now a Brigadier, Deputy Chief of Military’s Intelligence’s Col Henry Isoke is now Brigadier, and Commander Motorised Infantry Brigade Col Charles Byanyima is also brigadier and Deputy General Officer Commanding Reserves Brig. Rwabantu is now a Major General.

Also Colonels Kagoro Asingura and James Nambale were also promoted to the rank of Brigadier.

Meanwhile Gwanga is set to retire this year. He had previously retired from the army, but later asked to return to active service after he said he couldn’t handle civilian life.
