THIS WEEK: Opposition set conditions for them to participate in national dialogue
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | After government accepted to participate in the national dialogue that has for long been mooted by several individuals and groups including the Uganda Elders Forum and the Inter Religious Council of Uganda , opposition political parties issued their conditions to be fulfilled by the organizers if they are to take part.
In a joint statement signed by Democratic Party’s Norbert Mao, Forum for Democratic Change’s Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Uganda People’s Congress Joseph Bbosa, People’s Government’s Col Dr. kizza Besigye, Gen. Mugisha Muntu of the New Formation and Olara Otunnu who signed as a concerned citizen asked that the agenda of the dialogue should be to address what they referred to as a national crisis.
But after the release of this tough statement that had seven demands to be fulfilled, sections of the public came out to criticize the move saying that the dialogue shouldn’t be about parties and politicians but all Ugandans. “Who gave those demands to the opposition? Who did they consult?” a poster asked on twitter.
Also, the Deputy Government Spokesperson Col Shaban Bantariza said the opposition leaders ought not to delay the dialogue because they are ones that have been demanding it.
According to the roadmap, the process leading to the dialogue is set to be launched on Nov.21 and the dialogue will happen next year.
