Iganga, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Iganga on Sunday arrested three people for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy.

The suspects include Justine Namugere and Brenda Nakaziba aged 18 years old.

One of the suspects only identified as Rodgers tried to commit suicide by drinking poison after noticing that security operatives had surrounded their home. He is currently admitted at Iganga general hospital.

Michael Ainebyona, resident of Bugumba A village in the Northern division in Iganga municipality was kidnapped last week from a green park where he had gone to play with friends.

According to the police, the suspects held a meeting and planned on how to kidnap Ainebyona, whom they had tracked for close to three weeks.

The victim’s mother, Mary Tumwekwase says that she learnt about her son’s disappearance at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday.

“Since the boy had already had lunch and gone back to play with his childhood friends in the afternoon as usual, I was never bothered to trail him, however, when it clocked 7:00 pm, I started looking for him and that is when his friends told me that his aunties had taken him,” she says.

The Busoga East Police Spokesperson James Mubi says that Aineyoona was recovered after the police surrounded the suspects’ home in Iganga municipality. Mubi adds that they are yet to ascertain the suspects’ motives.

Iganga police have so far rescued two child children from suspected kidnappers in two weeks.
