Thugs rob sh22.4million from Indian businessman in Hoima

Hakiza says police investigating

Homa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Thugs have robbed 22.4 million Shillings from an Indian national in Hoima City.

The victim is Ganatra Kapil 32, a resident of Kiratete a suburb of Hoima city. The incident happened on Saturday around 7:30 p.m.

It is alleged that Kapil left his home at around 7p.m to go and look for supper.

However, when he returned home, he found thugs had broken into his house and made off with the money. The thugs also stole two land titles and his passport.

The land titles and the passport were later recovered dumped in Sansiro situated within Kiryatete, a few meters from the victim’s home.

After noticing that thugs had broken into his house, Kapil immediately reported the matter to Hoima City central police station.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson explains that police have teamed up with local authorities in the area to hunt for the thugs adding that a team of detectives are on the ground.

Hakiza however appealed to the public to coordinate with security by availing crucial information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Kiryatete suburb is one of the hot spots in Hoima city that harbors criminals.

Meanwhile, the police in Kakumiro District are hunting for yet unknown thugs who raided Kakindo town council and robbed 500,000 Shillings at gun point from a businesswoman.

The victim is Jennifer Kahigwa 45, a resident of the same area.  It is alleged that the three thugs armed with a gun waylaid their victim on Monday night at around 8 p.m. as she was returning home from her shop.

According to Kahigwa, the thugs emerged from the nearby bush and placed her at gunpoint and ordered her to surrender to them the bag and threatened to kill her if she sounded an alarm.

When she resisted, one of the thugs hit her on the head with a blunt object and collapsed. The thugs reportedly grabbed her bag containing 500,000 Shillings and varnished to an unknown destination.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident adding that they have deployed a team of flying squad operatives to hunt for the thugs.
