Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) has slapped four charges against popular TikToker 27-year-old Ibrahim Musana for abusing Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, Buganda Kingdom, and the Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga explained that the suspect, a resident of Kauga, Mukono district, was apprehended by the Directorate of Crime Intelligence over the weekend after his video clips in which he insulted the duo went viral on various social media platforms.
“He has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Directorate Kibuli where detectives are now processing him on various charges of misuse of social media, hate speech, offensive communication, and incitement to violence,” Enanga said.
The circulation of these videos, particularly on TikTok and X (formerly known as Twitter), elicited widespread condemnation from the public. “A large section of people in Buganda are annoyed with these speeches which are embarrassing and disrespectful. As a country, we have very strict laws against such cases,” Enanga noted.
He further emphasized that the police will continue to apprehend individuals promoting hateful ideologies, not only directed at the Kabaka of Buganda but also targeting all Ugandans and visitors to the country. “We can’t allow such people to continue since it can cause devastating effects on communities. We shall arrest and charge anyone who engages in such acts against any Ugandan or a visitor to Uganda,” Enanga said.
In response to Ibrahim Musana’s arrest, the Minister of Information for the Buganda Kingdom, Israel Kazibwe, issued a stern warning, asserting that Buganda will not tolerate any form of abuse or disrespect towards the Kabaka and the kingdom.
