Toroma MP Amodoi dies in Jinja highway motor accident

Toroma constituency Member of Parliament (MP)  Lieutenant (Rtd) Cyrus Amodoi Imalingati has died in a road accident at Kitigoma, Jinja-Kampala highway Tuesday night.

Imalingat is on of seven people confirmed dead after a taxi, registration number UAW 200W, collided head-on with another taxi, registration number UAL278F.

The two taxis, one heading to Mbale from Kampala and other from Jinja to Kampala, crashed into a fuso truck that had broken down in the middle of the road after getting a mechanical problem.

According to the regional police spokesman in Ssezibwa region Lameck Kigozi, the injured were rushed to Jinja and Kawolo hospital and by this morning, a rescue mission was still ongoing to evacuate the remaining taxi occupants.

Katakwi district legislator Lt. Amodoi Imalingat was serving his second term in parliament and was a member on the committee on defense and internal affairs and the committee on human rights respectively.

He first served in the elite Special Forces Command then Presidential Guard Brigade before he quit, to join elective politics.

Katakwi district Akurut Violet Adome said the late was travelling from Katakwi to Kampala. And that they last communicated on Monday..

‘I have received the sad news from his neighbor who rushed to Jinja hospital where he was admitted. We were planning a post celebration of the international women’s day. He had told me he would stay over till our join function is done on Thursday,” said Adome.

Cyrus Amodoi is the second member of  the 10th parliament to die this year after the death of  Moroto woman MP Anne Logiel which occurred in Copenhagen Denmark on Tuesday 14th February 2017.
