The 15 finalists who participated in the second edition of the StartUpper of the year challenge by Total Uganda (2018-2019) have been announced.
Kampala, Uganda | The Independent | The aim of the challenge is to turn young people’s innovations and passions into sustainable businesses. Initiated by the Total Group in 39 African countries simultaneously, the challenge will support innovative projects which are less than 2-years old.
Some of the winners include Mugagga Anold (Seatpack), Geoffrey Omoding (Sayans Academy), Hilda Asiimwe (digital health access), Vicent Nemeyimana (Swapafrica) among others. The selection of the winners was based on the applicant’s age, nationality, project age (two years), social and community impact, innovation and potential and feasibility.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Kampala on Jan.30, Patrick Mweheire, the CEO of Stanbic bank who is the Jury Ambassador of the initiative and Obi Imemba, the MD for Total said that the overall winners will take home Shs75million, the first runner-up Shs40m and second runner up Shs35m.
