Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The governments of the United Kingdom and South Africa have instructed the Ugandan forensic team to halt conducting a postmortem examination on their two nationals killed in Queen Elizabeth National Park last week.
David Barlow and Celia Geyer, nationals of the UK and South Africa respectively had come to Uganda for a honeymoon but landed in the hands of killers linked to the Allied Democratic Forces- ADF.
Security transported the foreign tourists’ bodies alongside that of Ugandan tour guide Eric Aryayi to Mulago hospital for a postmortem. Although Eryayi’s body was examined and handed over to relatives for burial, it has since been established that the UK and South Africa governments instructed Ugandan forensic experts not to touch the bodies before they arrive.
Senior Commissioner of Police –SCP Fred Enanga, said in a joint security statement that Ugandan forensic experts will wait for the UK and South African experts to join them so that the postmortem can proceed.
Enanga said once the postmortems are done, an official statement detailing the cause of death will be given to the High Commissions of UK and South Africa.
According to the Guardian Newspaper, David Barlow, was a businessman from the UK while his wife Celia Geyer was a South African-born hotel executive. The duo lived in Hampstead Norreys, a village near Newbury in Berkshire and they got married three days before their tragic ending.
Barlow ran a wood yard in nearby Hermitage and also served as chairman of Hampstead Norreys parish council as well as the local cricket club.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Martin Ochola, has instructed the Integrated Highway Patrol commander to deploy on all major road and highways in Kasese district and neighbouring areas.
“We have adjusted deployments at all tourist sites in the country. Stepped up our patrol along the major roads and highways in Kasese district. This calls for very regular and constant highway patrol. Integrated Highway Patrol Unit have been deployed,” said Enanga.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has since condemned the suspected ADF rebels for killing David Barlow and Celia Geyer vowing that they will pay the extreme price for their actions.
Before the attack last week, the suspected ADF group had waylaid Ugandans and burnt two people inside a truck.
