Gulu, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A truck has plunged into River Nile at Karuma Bridge. According to police, the driver of the truck hit the bridge rails before it veered into the river through the western side of the bridge in Nwoya District.
The occupants and truck were swept away and are yet to be recovered.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson said that the driver of the truck that was heading to Kampala from Gulu lost control at Karuma Bridge and plunged into the river. He identified the occupants as Tumusiime, the driver, and his turn boy Geoffrey Lushata.
Okema says that the mobile phone belonging to the turn boy fell on the bridge and his relatives were calling it following reports of the incident.
He says that marine experts from police headquarters have been notified and are being awaited at the Karuma bridge to intensify the search efforts..
