Luwero, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two people have died on the spot and two others sustained life threatening injuries in a fatal road accident in Luwero.
The accident occurred at around 11pm on Saturday night at Ngogoro village, about 70 kilometers into Luwero district, along the Kampala-Gulu highway after two salon cars collided.
A toyota premio registration number UAS 658K, which was coming from Gulu is said to have lost control before colliding with another premio, registration number UAV 620X which was coming from the opposite direction.
Luwero District Police Commander-DPC Felix Mugizi has identified the deceased persons as Rose Mary Bagonza, who was the driver of the premio UAV 620X, and Margret Odongo, who was a passenger in the same vehicle. They are both residents of Nakasongola.
He says the injured who were also occupants in the same vehicle driven by Rose Mary Bagonza are, Babirye Dorothy and Kyolaba Harriet.
According to the DPC, the force is yet to establish how the accident occurred. He says the bodies have been taken to Luwero hospital mortuary pending post-mortem.
DPC Mugizi says the injured have been taken to Bishop Caesar Asili Memorial Hospital at Kasana in Luwero town. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been towed to Luwero Central Police Station (CPS) pending inspection.
According to Isah Ssemwogerere, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, the driver of the vehicle Reg. No. UAS 658K which was coming from Gulu side took to their heels after the accident.
