Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | On Sept.04, the third edition of the 90 Days of Oil and Gas Media Campaign progressed well with remarkable feedback from sector enthusiasts as the campaign entered the 35th day, officials said in a news statement issued today.
The annual campaign is run by Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP) with the main purpose of sharing sector information for players to make informed decisions.
“The last 35 days have been amazing for us given the significant feedback that we have received from our members and the general public through different spaces,” said Humphrey Asiimwe, the Chief Executive Officer of UCMP.
He added: “We have shared relevant information regarding the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, tax policy and administration in the oil and gas, insurance and banking, and downstream and upstream projects. Our members, oil companies, and government officials have played a critical role for us to put out information for the last 35 days of the campaign.”
Speaking at a news conference on Aug.16, Proscovia Nabbanja, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda National Oil Company said, UNOC was happy to be part of the 90 days of oil and gas media campaign which would provide a platform for knowledge and information sharing which is critical for growing the sector.

Aggrey Ashaba, the General Secretary for UCMP Governing Council said, the campaign would bring out the real facts about the oil and gas sector as one way of countering falsehoods that keep emerging in different media spaces.
Jonan Kisakye, the Chief Executive Officer for Uganda Insurers Association said, the campaign provides an opportunity for private sector players and oil companies to align the areas where there are gaps and ensure smooth operations.
While appearing on a television talk show, Peter Muliisa, the Chief Legal and Corporate Officer at Uganda National Oil Company, and Ali Ssekatawa, the Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda agreed that the campaign would further add to the efforts geared towards providing the right information to the media for the latter to disseminate it to the wider audience – which is a plus for the sector whose development stage is gaining momentum on a daily.
The 2023 campaign edition started almost 19 months after the signing of the Final Investment Decision (FDI) to pave the way for investments of between US$15-20million in the sector.
The drilling of production wells for the Kingfisher and Tilenga oil production projects is continuing in preparation for the planned commencement of oil production in 2025. Remarkable progress has also been reported on the other supporting projects.
Going forward, Asiimwe said, the remaining days of the campaign will provide an opportunity for players to further engage and share updates as sector activities continue.
