Uganda Breweries sinks sh410 million into 82nd Uganda Golf Open

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The 82nd edition of the country’s most prestigious golf tournament – the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Championship – has been launched today. It will run from Oct 10-28 at at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.

This year’s edition will remain the same in terms of playing format, with three solid weeks of action, entertainment and great celebrations on and off the course.

“We promise the golfers a great experience during this year’s Open.We are super excited to have the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open with positive strides in the right direction,” Christine Kyokunda, Brand Manager Scotch and Reserve said at the launch.

The launch today was attended by the Uganda Golf Union and  Uganda Ladies Golf Union executive, the club’s top leaders and various sponsors.

Uganda Breweries Limited has provided sh410milion  as a total package for the tournament of which sh100 million is the prize kitty for the professionals.

Absa Bank Uganda has provided sh200 million with 70 million going for the Pro-Am and sponsorship for 10 golfers to the Magical Kenya Open.

HTC Hub will reward every hole-in-1 throughout the tournament on Par 3 holes with a brand new smart phone

The tournament starts with the Junior Open on October 10 and will be followed by the Ladies Open from 12-14 with the Seniors Open taking center stage from 13-14 Oct. The Amateurs will then tee off on the 18-21 while the Pro-Am will take place on October 24 while the Pros Open swing off from October 25-28.

The hosting captain Emmanuel Wamala promised a great tournament. “I welcome you to Uganda Golf Club and I want to thank the Uganda Golf Union for having chosen us as the hosts. There have been a lot of prepations made to present a course in perfect condition. We are offering free practice rounds for all the golfers that will participate in the Open, including the Juniors.”

Martha Babirye, is the Ladies Reigning Champion, while Andrew Sekibejja, is the Amateur Men’s Open, John Muchiri, is the Senior Men’s Open Champion while Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinoi, is the Pro Open Champion.
