Nairobi, Kenya | THE INDEPENDENT |  The Uganda Cranes started their FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign with an away draw to hosts Harambee Stars of Kenya.

The East African derby again showed its unpredictability as Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic started his second reign at Cranes.

Sredojevic who was re-appointed as national team coach last month after he stepped down in 2017.

In the absence of skipper Denis Onyango who retired few months ago, striker Emmanuel Okwi started as captain but was stretchered off injured just before the first half whistle.

The two teams took to the field knowing that Mali beat Rwanda 1-0 last night to go top of Group E. After facing Kenya, the Cranes will host Mali on September 6th at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende.
