Uganda gears up for Commonwealth speakers conference

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDPENDENT | Uganda is fully prepared to host the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), according to Speaker of Parliament Anita Among. Addressing Heads of Mission and representatives of Commonwealth member countries, Among emphasized the country’s readiness and the potential benefits of the conference.

“This conference can only be a success with your support,” Among stated, urging them to communicate Uganda’s preparedness and the conference’s advantages to their respective Speakers and Presiding Officers.

“The Uganda we are in today is the Pearl of Africa, it has everything. When visitors come to Uganda, they have visited East Africa. When we host as Uganda, we host as East Africa.”

Confirmed as the host at the previous CSPOC in Canberra, Australia, the event will take place at the Speke Resort Munyonyo from January 3rd to 6th, 2024. Uganda will lead discussions on the topic, “Diverse and Inclusive Parliament, Youth and Gender Sensitivity,” alongside the Parliament of Pakistan.

Other topics on the agenda include environment, climate change, security measures for Parliamentarians and Parliaments, health and wellbeing support in Parliaments, and the role of Speakers and Presiding Officers.
