Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Tributes have started flowing following the passing away of Ambassador Julius Onen, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.
“This is sad and very painful to loose ladit Onen, a very accomplished public servant. We pray for his family in this trying moment,” said Minister in charge of ICT Frank Tumwebazwe after news of the death Sunday night.
Messages came in from abroad, with Rwanda Foreign Minister Richard Sezibera saying “Saddened to hear of the passing on of Ambassador Julius Onen. The East African Community has lost a tireless advocate. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May He Rest in Peace.”
Onen died on a Sunday night at Paragon hospital where he had been admitted.
The Trade Ministry announced Onen’s passing in a message on its Facebook page.
“Amb. Julius B. Onen, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, gone too soon. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” reads the post.
According to sources, Ambassador Onen had just returned from India on Monday where he was taken for treatment for some heart complication.
He is father of Sanyu presenter James Onen.
