Ugandan golfers eye second win at Victoria Cup

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Team Uganda will be eyeing a second win at the prestigious Victoria Cup, a team tournament that will be held from February 1-3 at the Uganda Golf Club.

This team tournament matches the best golfers of Uganda against those of Kenya. The Victoria Cup, is equivalent to the famous Ryder Cup that pits Europe against America.

“Am very confident with this team and I have selected a side capable to win this tournament, ” Flavia Namakula, the national team coach told the press.

“We have to use full advantage of the course since are on home turf we have prepared ourselves adequately and are looking forward to the action.”

Uganda’s first win over there bitter rivals was achieved at the par 72, Kitante golf course in 2019 , and golfers are looking to history repeating itself.

Kenya has been domimant in this tournament, having won the last three editions. The won the inaugural edition in 2016, they come into this edition as the reigning champions having beaten Uganda in 2022 in Limuru.

Uganda will field Reagan Akena, Ibrahim Bagalana, Amon Bwambale(Debutant), Joseph Cwinyaai(Captain), Joseph Kasozi, John Musimenta(Debutant), Titus Okwong, Andrew Sekibejja, Elton Thembo(Debutant) and Ibrahim Semakula
