Ugandans commended as Franco-Germans mark ties

On Jan.22 every year the French and German people commemorate the signing of the Franco-German friendship treaty which was aimed at establishing a relationship of trust between former hereditary enemies.

Commemorating 54 years this year, In Uganda ambassadors Stephanie Rivoal of France and Peter Blomeyer of German hosted a peace and reconciliation ceremony awarding Ugandans who have played roles to promote peace in situations of war and conflict. Among those awarded is Victor Ochen, the executive director of Africa Youth Initiative an organization based in Northern Uganda for the part he played in promoting peace and reconciliation in the area during and after the Joseph Kony war.

Rivoal said the treaty is the best example in history to show that conflict can be turned rapidly into peace and cooperation if the parties involved agree.
