Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | In a sign of increasing warm relations between Kampala and Washington, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa held a meeting with US Ambassador Deborah Malac at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
The two discussed regional and bilateral issues related to peace, security and development as well as a number of on-going activities in the Uganda-US relations that will be followed up in the course of the year and the upcoming AU Summit in Addis Ababa, AGOA and the Consular docket.
Amb. Malac emphasized the commitment the United States continues to have towards Uganda and the United States’ “continued respect for the long and shared history between the United States and Africa.”
A week earlier, Ambassador Malac was in western Uganda where she commissioned the Bundibugyo General Hospital’s laboratory building last week.
With support from PEPFAR, the U.S. government initiative to help save the lives of those at risk from HIV/AIDS around the world, the lab has been remodeled to serve as a hub for HIV and TB services for patients at 28 health facilities around Bundibugyo and Ntoroko districts
