UNAIDS launches online debate of how World should fight AIDS beyond 2015

By Ronald Musoke

The joint UN programme on HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS, has today launched a two-week online discussion (eDiscussion) to foster debate of how to tackle the HIV/AIDS pandemic after 2015.

The thematic consultation is an open and inclusive online discussion targeting individuals, members of civil society, the academia, governments and the private sector to discuss the ways in which the global AIDS response can and should inform the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

The debate will run from Jan.21 to Feb.3.

The debate will dwell on key thematic areas such as the unfinished HIV agenda; AIDS, health and development, and decision-making.

A Consultation report will emerge from the e-discussion.  It will be shared broadly and also used in these specific ways,

It will influence the discussion and outcomes of the high-level health thematic meeting to be held in Gaborone, Botswana from 5-6 March. It will also be sent to the UNAIDS-LANCET Commission as a primary resource.

The report will be used to write editorials and blogs, including those by the UNAIDS Executive Director and e-Consultation Moderators.
