Luwero, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A joint security team comprising the Uganda People’s Defense Forces and police are pursuing unidentified assailants who attacked policemen at a roadblock along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
The assailants reportedly stabbed two policemen at the road block in Kiwumpa village, five kilometers to Luwero town council on Monday afternoon before disappearing with two guns. Abisafu Kawuma, an eyewitness explains that the incident occurred at around 12:30 pm when two men armed with machetes attacked the policemen at the checkpoint and stabbed them.
Kawuma says that one policewoman managed to flee and hid in the garden. He volunteered his t-shirt when the policeman removed his uniform to hide from the killers. He says that they managed to run together to save their lives before they connected back to the highway and alerted the policemen at Luwero Central Police Station.
The assailants torched the truck which had been parked near the checkpoint before they fled the scene with two guns. A team of police officers and UPDF soldiers led by Living Twazagye, the Luwero District Police Commander rushed to the scene but found the assailants had taken off.
The injured police officers were rushed to Luwero hospital where one of the officers was pronounced dead. Police officers and soldiers were still combing the nearby bushes to find the killers by the time of filing this story.
