Opposition party Uganda People’s Congress has described the late John Odit as a patriot who served his country whole heartedly.
Okello Lucima the party spokesperson said that Odit was a man who dedicated himself to serve his country and the people and was highly respected by his colleagues in the parliament.
“He has done for this country a lot of things, he was a teacher for a long time and also served the community, UPC has lost a man” he said during their weekly press conference at Uganda House
Lucima refuted the media reports that Odit has been sick for four days and said he suffered stroke in February earlier this year and he was bed ridden at Kampala International Hospital before he was moved to Mulago Hospital where he died.
The former UPC Secretary General was born on 9th September 1954 and died on 9th November 2012. The former Erute North member of Parliament and Uganda People’s Congress member had represented his Constituency, in the 6th, 7th and 8th Parliament died on Friday at Mulago Hospital.
The legislator also chaired the Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises committee which handled the infamous Temangalo and National Social Security Services land scandal among others.
His body has was taken to the parliament between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm then to All Saints Cathedral Nakasero before it was transferred to St Andrew In Lira District where his burial will take place at his village in Amac on Friday 16.
