UPDF hands over 22 rescued ADF abductees to Congolese authorities

Kasindi, DRC | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda People Defence Forces-UPDF has handed over 22 people rescued from captivity of the Allied Democratic Forces-ADF-rebels.

The abductees regained freedom following the UPDF and FARDC joint forces operation Shujja in Eastern DR. Congo.

On Monday, senior army officers of both countries formally recived the rescued group during a ceremony at Operation Shujaa headquarters located in Kasindi Town, DR. Congo.

Col. George Jeti sector III commander, applauded the Uganda and Congolese armies for a fine bilateral coordination that is gradually promoting peace in the Eastern parts of DR.Congo.

He added that since inception in November 2021, Operation Shujjaa has attained massive achievements mailing killing most rebels and rescuing adducted persons.

Maj. Katamba Bilal, the PRO mountain division, of UPDF said they had to change the mindset of the abductees through skilling before they would be sent home to get integrated into communities.

Col. Chibi Chabene who received the rescued abductees on behalf of DRC government thanked the UPDF troops and FARDC for the good job so far done in fighting against ADF.

He added that the two forces will not relent until the ADF commanders and control structure is fully destroyed.
