Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement team has recovered 750 cartons of assorted biscuits and chocolates worth Ushs10 million, the authority said in a recent notice. The recovery was in an operation held on Dec. 12 at a residence in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb. The recovered items are said to have been imported from Sri Lanka and headed for the DR. Congo market after a short stay at one of the warehouses in Kampala.
Patrick Onder, the director Ikuk’s Investments Uganda Limited, a clearing agency and the driver of a truck registration number UAP 139A were netted in the operation witnessed by Julius Mponooka Nkwasire, the manager for enforcement operations at URA. This development comes a few days after the URA impounded about 34kgs of mercury that was allegedly stolen from DR. Congo. The mercury was handed over to DRC government. The revenue body that recently got a new Commissioner General, Doris Akol, urged the public to report all cases related to smuggling and other related cases to URA or police.
