The Independent Uganda: You get the Truth we Pay the Price

Uganda has hailed the U.S government for supporting it in the Innovations for local government social services delivery program to foster local government social services delivery through innovations, at its official launch on Feb.5 at Protea Hotel,Kampala.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), committed US$ 4.4 million (approximately 11.7 billion UGX) to the Strengthening Decentralization for Sustainability (SDS) programme that aims to improve service delivery at the local government level by exploring new ideas.
“I would like to thank the U.S. Government and President Barack Obama for extending their support through USAID for this project”, Local Government Minister, Hon. Adolf Mwesigye said at the launch in Kampala.
USAID through its SDS program in which it partners with the ministry will award innovation grants to eligible districts later this year, which grants will be awarded through a competitive process based on the merit of proposals with innovative social development initiatives.
The project will operate in 35 districts in Eastern, Western and Central Uganda to improve maternal, child health, vulnerable children and HIV/AIDS services through innovation and collaboration.
Ethan Mussolini C.E.O Success Africa quoting Tony Robin said “it is not about the resources but it is about your resourcefulness” and urged people to gather and use the scarce resources to be innovative rather than waiting for the Government to think for them. He added that projects in some districts are already being coordinated by SDS.
The SDS launching ceremony was concluded by awarding different district representatives that had shown good performance so far in the project like representatives from Kiruhura, Kabale, Sironkwo, Butaleja and also Mpigi.
