VIDEO: Mathew Kanyamunyu seeks bail again
Kampala, Uganda | NTV UGANDA | The High court in Kampala sat yesterday to hear another application for bail filed by Mathew Kanyamunyu , who is accused of the shooting of a social worker Kenneth Akena in November.
Justice Yasin Nyanzi, who is one of the judges who denied him bail, presided over the third application.
Kanyamunyu has since appealed Justice Nyanzi’s decision of denying him bail in the Court of Appeal. Now in the new application, Kanyamunyu says investigations into his murder case are complete, and he was committed to the high court for trial, so there is no way he will interfere with police investigations and witnesses.
Kanyamunyu argues that he has spent 165days in luzira prison which is congested, and he has been forced to sleep in the same room with inmates who have been on remand for over 20 years.
He further claims that he is still innocent until proved guilty, and undertakes to abide by any conditions set by court . Mathew Kanyamunyu is jointly charged with Cynthia Munwangari and his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu.
