Vipers win Cup final, end Onduparaka dreams

Pius Wangi hit a brace as Vipers SC grabbed their first Uganda Cup trophy on Saturday, ending the dream run of Onduparaka.

Viper’s 3-1 victory at the Nakivubo stadium final also brought and end to their Uganda Cup finals jinx that had seen them lose at the last stage on two previous occasions.

Goals from Wangi (2) and Erisa Ssekisambu ensured the victory, in a game where Gaddafi Wahabu had momentarily put Onduparaka back in competition with the game 2-1 at halftime.

The winner of the Uganda Cup got a trophy, gold medals and a sh7 million cash prize. The runners up got sh2 million and silver medals.

Ssekisambu was later named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the cup competition as Vipers also grabbed most of the awards. Ismail Watenga (Vipers SC)  was named best goalkeeper and  George Nsimbe (Vipers SC) best coach.

Top scorer is Onduparaka’ Muhammed Shaban (7 Goals).
