Rollers vs KCCA 10pm
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | KCCA FC head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has said his team must go all out and battle for maximum points when they face Township Rollers FC in the CAF Champions League Group A tíe in Botswana on Friday night.
Mutebi told URN in an interview before the team traveled to Gaborone, Botswana on Wednesday that it will be very important to start the group stage with a win away from home.
” We made it to the group stage of the Confederations Cup last year and the away games were our problem. We should not make similar mistakes in the Champions League,” explained Mutebi.
KCCA FC are the only team in the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region in the group stage of the lucrative Champions League.
The coach said he is happy with the mood of the players which has been showed by the 12 goals they have scored in the last four games.
” I like the fact that the strikers especially Shaban Muhammad have starting converting the many chances created at the right time. With the Champions League you need the goals to be able to win matches,” he added.
KCCA FC ejected CNaps FC of Madagascar and St. George (Ethiopia) to reach the CAF Champions League group stage.
Mutebi’s team is grouped in Group A along side Africa’s record eight time champions Al Ahly (Egypt) who they host on May 15th, Esperance (Tunisia) and Township Rollers FC where Uganda’s Cranes midfielder Ivan Ntege plies his trade.
“We are ready to go and play our hearts out for the team because we know playing in the group stage of the Champions League is no easy task,” added team captain Timothy Dennis Awany.
The team will however miss injured players Saddam Ibrahim Juma, Muzamil Mutyaba together with first choice goalkeeper Charles Lukwago who is suspended after accumulating two yellow cards.
