THIS WEEK: MP proposes bill to cater for Museveni’s succession.
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Workers’ MP Sam Lyomoki who is in parliament on the ruling National Resistance Movement ticket has written to the speaker seeking to introduce a new bill dubbed, the Museveni Succession, Transition and Immunities Bill 2017. Lyomoki who intends to also introduce a bill on restoration of term limits said the recent debate of the proposed removal of age limits for president showed him and other colleagues in the party that Museveni who has been in power for over 30 years is not sure of what will happen to him after leaving power. This bill will act as a guide and guard to him, the legislator asserted while explaining the Sept.22 letter that had been copied to the deputy speaker and clerk of parliament.
Meanwhile another NRM MP – John Baptist Nambeshe representing Manjiya County in Bududa district also wrote to the speaker requesting to move a motion for leave of parliament to introduce a bill requiring a member of parliament to relinquish his or her seat once they are appointed ministers.
