THIS WEEK: MTN innovation awards are back

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  The MTN Innovation Awards that recognize digital innovation in the country are back. The telecom firm called for entries for the awards of 2017 on Sep 22 seeking to recognize both mobile and web-based applications developed by Ugandans in at least seven categories.

The entries are to be made online on www.mtn.co.ug/innovationawards and will be closed on Oct. 6, 2017.

Olivier Prentout, the chief marketing officer at MTN Uganda said the awards are aimed at recognising and promoting local innovation as part of the firm’s vision to lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world for its customers and the communities where it operates.

“Technology is becoming an enabler in almost every sector of Uganda’s economy,” he said. The winners of this year’s competition will be recognized at the Awards Gala to be held on November 8, 2017, with each category winner getting S$3,000.

This is the second edition of the MTN Innovation Awards since 2015 where eight projects were awarded for their outstanding contribution to society.
