THIS WEEK: Mulago Hospital conducts brain surgery on an awake patient
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | During a medical camp organised by nuerosurgeons at Mulago hospital together with experts from the India based Yashoda hospital have conducted brian surgeries on over ten patient including one who underwent the procedure while awake but sedated.
This was the first time such a procedure is being done at the unit.
Speaking to the independent, Dr. Michael Muhumuza, the head of the nuerosurgery unit said once renovations going on at the hospital are complete, they are set to start conducting skull reconstruction for accident victims in addition to the other surgeries that have been going on.
