THIS WEEK: Ssebaana death stirs DP wrangles
The death of former party president John Ssebaana Kizito was enough to stir the simmering tensions among various sections of the Democratic Party. The burial of Ssebaana in Luweero district turned into an arena of insults and fistfights between factions aligned to Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago and those of party president Nobert Mao.
Matters got heated when Mao demanded an apology to him from those who are undermining party structures and entrenching hooliganism. This was interpreted as a jibe at the Lukwago faction which has members like Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze and the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD).
Members of UYD were involved in fights with other members of the party, drawing the condemnation of party elders like Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere.
