THIS WEEK: Suspects in Kiggundu murder charged
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | On Sept.07, the Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita told court he has charged eight suspects in connection with the murder of a muslim cleric Maj. Muhammad Kiggundu and his body guard in November last year. Kiggundu was gunned down at Masanafu a Kampala surburb.
Among those charged with the murder include Sheikh Yahaya Ramadhan Mwanje, who was the acting Tabliq sect leader at Nakasero Mosque in Kampala, Muhammad Buyondo alias Matiya a boda boda rider, Abdul- Wahabu Ssendegeya, boda boda rider , Musa Ssekandi alias Masanafu, a businessman, Yusuf Nyanzi, Bruhan Balyejusa, Nurudin Lutaaya and Jibril Kalyango.
The suspects are to be committed to highcourt for trial. However Sheikh Mwanje, Ssekandi, Buyondo and Sendegeya are also charged with terrorism for they are accused of training and recruiting people into the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group between 2010 and 2017 in different districts across the country.
