THIS WEEK: Trump slaps arms embargo on Juba, urges UN to do the same

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | On Feb.02, the Trump administration announced an arms embargo on South Sudan urging other countries and agencies to only follow suit but also cut off support to other countries involved in Africa’s youngest country’s political crisis.

A statement from the spokesperson of the Department of State indicated that US was seeking support from the United Nations Security Council to enforce an international ban on the flow of all arms to the country because both President Salva Kiir’s government and the opposition led by former Vice President Riek Machar have continued using military force even after signing on agreement on ceasing hostility in December last year.

Meanwhile, the state department maintained innocent people continued losing their lives something that they can’t let to continue happening.
But, this move to slap an embargo on Juba is strongly opposed by other leaders like Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni who maintains that this could plunge the country into more problems.
