THIS WEEK: Works Ministry halts issuing permits till September
Drivers who had applied for new driving permits will have to use temporary documents until Sept.10 as the Ministry of works through Face Technologies, a permit issuing company have halted the printing to give way for routine maintenance of the system.
Relaying the communication, Winston Katushabe, the commissioner transport regulation and safety said the process is aimed at enhancing the security features in a bid to gradually upgrade the driving permits to international standards as they will in future introduce a single card system which can enable a holder to use the document anywhere in the world.
The one month break in issuing permits will not affect processing of permits as applicants will still be able to get the temporary document that’s usually issued as one awaits the final permit.
