We will arrest and prosecute drunken drivers-police boss

By Julius Businge

As the festive season continues, Uganda Police Force has warned drunk drivers that they risk being arrested and prosecuted for driving while drunk. Speaking at the launch of the 3rd edition of Uganda Breweries Limited campaign against drunk driving on De.16, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of traffic, Stephen Kasiima said; “We are very serious.”

Kasiima said 5% of road accidents [crashes] in Uganda are as a result of drunk driving. This much lower than the global mark of 40% but Kasiima said the 5% is still big and that want to further lower the mark to 1 or 0% in future. “We thank UBL for organizing these campaigns and urge other players in the industry to do the same,” he added. The campaign was launched at UMA show grounds by the UPF officials and the Corporate Relations & Legal Director at UBL, Charity Kiyemba among others. Kiyemba said, for sustainability purposes of the business, the campaigns are good.
