Witch arrested in Gulu city for being a public nuisance

Gulu, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Gulu city are holding a 30 year old suspected witch for being a public nuisance after she was nabbed casting a spell at Kaunda grounds in Gulu city at night.

Stella Auma, a resident of Koch-Goma sub county in Nwoya district was arrested on Sunday night after a tip-off from the CCTV camera control room at Gulu Central Police Station, as she was performing her usual sorcerous act, something that had sparked public outcry.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson revealed that police patrol had on several occasions responded to Kaunda ground following a tip-off from the CCTV camera control room to arrest Auma as she was performing her usual sorcerous act, but they would instead find a dog on the exact spot.

Mudong says police finally managed to arrest Auma on Sunday 7th at around 8pm while naked, just a few meters from the Gulu main prison’s premises.

According to Mudong, Auma is currently detained at Gulu Central Police Station under SD Ref: 54/07/11/2021. She will be examined under Police Form 24 to determine her mental wellbeing and that once she is found to be mentally healthy, she will be charged with being a public nuisance.
