Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Ritah Namalwa to Luzira Prison on charges of forgery, personation and theft of about 700 million shillings from a Pastor.
Namalwa was on Thursday arraigned before the Nakawa Grade One Magistrate Andrew Katurubuki who sat in for the Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza.
Three charges were read against Namalwa who is a 33-year-old resident of Nsasa Bulindo Kira Municipality in Wakiso District.
The court has heard that Namalwa and others still at large, between the years 2020 and 2024, in Nakawa Division Kampala stole 86,000 United States Dollars, 374 million shillings which was a property of Dunamis Media and Prayer Palace Ministry.
Records indicate that the Complainant Bishop Grivas Musisi Kiwanuka, the Lead Pastor for Prayer Palace Ministries and a Director of Dunamis Broadcasting Services a company that owns and runs Dunamis Radio applied for a licence on April 3rd 2024 to operate a television broadcast as required under section 23 of the Uganda Communications Commission Act.
As a result, records further show that Namalwa and her husband Daniel Jed Kabanda who is on the run falsely presented themselves as employees of UCC and obtained 700 million shillings to provide him with two licences to operate two televisions.
For that purpose, the prosecution has instituted charges of impersonation against Namalwa alleging that with intent to defraud, she falsely represented herself as an Engineer and Personal Assistant to the Executive Director of UCC whereas not.
She was also charged with uttering false documents and forgery of UCC tax invoices, receipts and UCC Business cards bearing her name and the title of Engineer /Personal Assistant to the Executive Director.
Namalwa denied the charges against her. Although there was no State Attorney in Court to inform the court of the progress of investigations.
She has been remanded until October 21st.
